Burned Bridges/or fools rush in

Recenty, our little community had a bond election for new schools.  We are old!   Jr High built in l936 and the newest school built in l950.  Needed very badly, and both of our kids went here and was a wonderful experience.

However, it was defeated 1160 to 868.  Another little community six miles away that attended Jr. High thru high school had their elementary closed due to low attendance, and an expense the school system could not afford.  At their voting precenct a posture reading, "remember, they closed our school" was put up....  Seems the school was closed abruptly and they were not given time to adjust before it happened.

The little community was just voted wet, and alot of the kids are going to a near by school in another county.  In fact they say 150 kids were taken out of our school system in last six years due to racial and or bullying by other students/teachers showing partiallity etc.

Several large land owners bought huge ads in our local paper saying No to the bond issue.  Many of  The local businesses were against it.  Most old money and had voted down the last big bond by 7 votes in l980. Many lies were exchanged and now our community is turn apart.

Hubby and I rushed in, had big Yes sign in front yard, and tried very hard to get others to Vote Yes.  I was told I was not nice, and now I wonder if I was wrong in my passion toward this bond issue.

I love my community very much.  We are dying on the vine.  We won three State Championships in a row, our kids excell in UIL, as well as sports.  I taught here for 22 years.  My heart is here as well as my devotion for all the teachers, past and present.

But Was I a fool, not to see why these people did  not vote YES?  An average household would have gone up $5.00 a month.  Did I miss the forrest for the trees?

Lord help me see what is right in this situation,  I've never had enemies before, and it is really bothering me.

Blessings, Heide

You are not a fool. Those people voting "No" on the bond issue are the fools. If they attended a public school, the taxpayers of that day paid for their education, Now it is their turn to fund the education of another generation.

You might want to keep the lyrics of this song in mind for the support of your position.

    To dream the impossible dream
    To fight the unbeatable foe
    To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

    To right the unrightable wrong
To be better far than you are
To try when your arms are too weary
    To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To be willing to give when there's no more to give
To be willing to die so that honor and justice may live

And I know if I'll only be true to this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm when I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one (woman) scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with (her) last ounce of courage
    To reach the unreachable star

  2. Oh Thank you Whit.... That meant so much to me. I was doubting my stand, as many have said I was wrong and made me feel like I was.

  3. It sounds to me as if you were looking out for a better education for our future leaders. It amazes me how stingy people are that they object to paying for the single most important thing in any childs life.
